According to figures, half of the foreign-born residents of the United States are of Latin American origin.
Although their composition has changed in the last twelve years, the Mexican-born population has decreased by about 1 million people and those from Central and South America have increased by 2.1 million people.

Of those 46 million foreign-born Americans, nearly a quarter (10.4 million) live in California.
Another 5.2 million reside in Texas, 4.8 million make their home in Florida and 4.5 million are in New York.
Between these four states, they account for just over 53% of legal immigrants.
California reached its peak of foreign-born people between 2010 and 2022, while New York dropped from second to fourth place in the ranking.
Beyond the population concentration, the trend varied among these states: Florida and Texas had a large growth in their immigrant population between 2010 and 2022, close to 20%.
On the other hand, New York and California had a slowdown and their increase was less than 10%.
Furthermore, it can be seen that in places like California, New Jersey, New York and Florida, foreign-born people constitute more than 20% of each state’s total population.
Likewise, in comparatively smaller places such as Nevada and Hawaii the percentage is also high: 15% and 19.9% respectively.
At the other extreme, West Virginia has the lowest figure: 1.8%.
