An investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil has been launched following an order issued by a Supreme Court judge in the South American nation.
Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes has ordered an investigation against billionaire Elon Musk.
Musk refuses to close some accounts on the X platform, the tech owner accuses the judge of violating the Brazilian constitution.
The investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil started because of the entrepreneur’s refusal to block some accounts.
The confrontation between Elon Musk and Brazil intensified on Sunday when a Supreme Federal Court judge opened an investigation into the billionaire after Musk said he would reactivate accounts on the X social networking platform that the magistrate had ordered blocked.
Musk, owner of X and a self-proclaimed free speech absolutist, had challenged a decision by Judge Alexandre de Moraes ordering the blocking of certain accounts.
He said X, formerly known as Twitter, would lift all restrictions because they were unconstitutional and called on Moraes to resign.
Investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil
Regarding the investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil, the accounts that are in dispute are not known.
Neither Musk, X nor the Brazilian authorities have disclosed which social network accounts were ordered blocked.

Social network X first posted about the blocking order on Saturday, but it was not immediately clear when the order was issued.
Similarly, Moraes is investigating “digital militias” that have been accused of spreading fake news and hate messages during the government of far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro.
The investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil also seeks to prove that these users are part of an alleged coup attempt by Bolsonaro.
More, however, Musk, in a publication of X on Saturday night, He accused Moraes of betraying “blatantly and repeatedly” the constitution and the people of Brazil.
“This judge has levied massive fines, threatened to arrest our employees and cut off access to X in Brazil,” he said in the post. “As a result, we will likely lose all revenue in Brazil and will have to close our office there. But principles matter more than profits,” Musk noted.
The billionaire has vowed to legally challenge the order blocking the X accounts whenever possible.
Moraes responded Sunday by adding Musk to the investigation he is leading into fake news on social media and opening an inquiry into what he called an obstruction of justice.
Judge Moraes said that “X shall refrain from disobeying any court order already issued, including performing any profile reactivation that has been blocked by this Federal Supreme Court.”
If X does not comply with the order to block certain accounts, the company will be fined 100,000 reais ($19,740) per day, the judge said in a statement sent to the media.

And of course, the investigation against Elon Musk in Brazil received the support of the leftist government of President Luiz Inácio Lula.
While Attorney General Jorge Messias criticized Musk and called for the regulation of social networks to prevent foreign platforms from violating Brazilian laws.
“We cannot live in a society in which foreign-domiciled billionaires have control of social networks and put themselves in a position to violate the rule of law, breaching court orders and threatening our authorities,” Messias said in a publication in X.
The bill puts the onus on Internet companies, search engines and social messaging services to find and report illegal material, rather than leaving it to the courts.
