Canelo Álvarez’s Next Fight

Canelo Álvarez’s next fight now has a name and a surname, as confirmed by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Indeed, Canelo Álvarez’s next fight will be against David Benavídez, something that boxing fans, especially in Mexico, had been asking for.

In this regard, the World Boxing Council (WBC) confirmed the news.

David Benavidez is set to be the official challenger for Canelo Álvarez, as confirmed during the agenda of activities of the 61st Annual WBC Convention, presided over by Mauricio Sulaimán, who announced the information.

Sulaimán, during the mandatory fights session, confirmed that David Benavidez vs. Canelo Álvarez will have to take place, with the condition of being attentive to the result obtained by the American in his fight scheduled for November 25 in Las Vegas against Demetrius Andrade, the current interim champion of the organization.

“Benavídez’s fight is planned for the 25th against Andrade; Canelo defended his belt in September; we will observe the result of Benavídez, who is the mandatory challenger, facing Andrade, and after this fight, if he wins, he is confirmed as the mandatory challenger, so we will be very attentive to this fight,” Sulaimán said.

Canelo Álvarez’s Next Fight: David Benavidez

After the fight on November 25, David Benavidez, as the official challenger, would be facing Saúl Álvarez, who has just defended his four titles in the super middleweight division.

On September 30, he defeated American Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision.

Although Sulaimán himself was consulted about the possible date of the confrontation, he assured that it will be taken calmly, after the fight on November 25, so everything points to it possibly taking place in May or September 2024.

“After his commitment in September, he has been on vacation, it is the most important division right now, and we will take it calmly to follow the appropriate path, where justice is done, where no rules are broken, and what is best for boxing is done,” said the WBC president.

Canelo Álvarez’s next fight promises to be a great show if the confrontation against Benavidez is confirmed.

Benavidez won his first belt at the age of 22 years, eight months, and 22 days old, holding the record as the youngest boxer ever to have won a super middleweight title.
