Any doubts? The best-selling jerseys in MLS

Among the best-selling jerseys in MLS, there is no doubt that the Argentine player Lionel Messi, who has been a sensation in the league, stands out.

Lionel Messi, who made his debut just over two months ago with Inter Miami, already leads the list of the best-selling MLS jerseys in 2023.

MLS released the list of the best-selling jerseys from January 1st to September 12th, 2023, with the Argentine superstar at the top. It’s worth recalling that Messi announced his arrival in Miami on June 7th and made his debut with the pink team on July 21st in a match against Cruz Azul.

But this summer of ‘Messi-mania’ in the USA, which led Inter Miami to win their first-ever title (the Leagues Cup), has been enough for his jersey to be the best-selling one in MLS this year.

Thus, Messi occupies the first position on this list of the best-selling jerseys in MLS, ahead of Brazilian João Klauss, the star of St. Louis City (a debutant team in MLS this year, surprisingly leading the Western Conference).

Following them is the German Hany Mukhtar, the leader of Nashville and the 2022 MLS MVP and top scorer.

Other players who feature with the best-selling MLS jerseys include Argentine Sebastián Driussi (Austin) and Mexican Carlos Vela (Los Angeles FC), completing the ‘top 5’.

Best-selling jerseys in MLS: Others

Three players from the Seattle Sounders, who in 2022 became the first MLS team to win the Concacaf Champions League, are among the top ten: Jordan Morris (sixth), Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz (seventh), and the US player of Guatemalan and Salvadoran descent, Cristian Roldán (tenth).

Argentinian Thiago Almada (Atlanta United) and German Eduard Löwen (St. Louis City) took the eighth and ninth positions, respectively.

The list of the most popular MLS jerseys also includes other Hispanic players such as Mexican Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández (LA Galaxy, 12th), Spanish Sergio Busquets (Inter Miami, 13th), Spanish Riqui Puig (LA Galaxy, 15th), Mexican-American Brandon Vázquez (Cincinnati, 16th), Colombian Diego Chará (Portland Timbers, 19th), Venezuelan Josef Martínez (Inter Miami, 21st), Spaniard Carles Gil (New England Revolution, 22nd), and Argentine Enzo Copetti (Charlotte, 24th).
