More Storm Refugee Centers in Texas as tornadoes sweep through several towns in the region.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has allocated funds to set up more storm refugee centers.

Those affected by the recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding continue to increase; the bad conditions began on April 26.

Those benefiting from staying in the storm shelters may be eligible for disaster assistance.

Currently, residents of Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity and Walker counties may be eligible for this assistance.

FEMA has implemented new benefits that provide flexible funding directly to survivors when they need it most.

In addition to more storm refugee centers in Texas, a simplified process and expanded eligibility allows Texans to access a broader range of assistance and immediate funding for severe needs.

Among the new benefits are Severe Needs Assistance.

In addition to being eligible to stay in storm refugee centers, they are eligible for a one-time $750 household payment for essential items.

On the other hand, Displacement Assistance, a new benefit that provides advance funding to assist with immediate housing options of people’s choice.

More Storm Refugee Centers in Texas

At a press conference on May 28, FEMA announced that immigrant families who live in the affected areas and have U.S. citizen children can apply for assistance.

More people are still being accounted for due to the damage, and as a result, more storm refugee centers continue to be set up.

Survivors can apply for FEMA assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by downloading the FEMA mobile app or by calling the helpline at 800-621-3362. Assistance is available in most languages.

They will also be available Monday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the following addresses:

  • Spring Branch Family Development Center located at 8575 Pitner Road Houston, Texas 77080.
  • Innovation Center, 250 Live Oak St, Coldspring, TX 77331
  • Leon Z Grayson Community Center, 13828 Corpus Christi St, HOUSTON, TX 77015
  • The Help Center at the Fonde Community Center, located at 110 Sabine Street. HOuston, TX 77007.

More refugee centers in Texas

As of Tuesday, May 28, the following centers are open:

  • Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center, 16600 Pine Forest Lane, Houston, TX 77084.
  • Jack Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto St., Liberty, TX 77575.
  • Trinity ISD Boardroom, 101 W. Jefferson St. Trinity, TX 75862

In addition to the new benefits, FEMA has simplified application requirements, provides support for the underinsured, simplified assistance for entrepreneurs, expanded livability criteria, accessibility improvements, computer assistance and temporary rental assistance.

FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program assistance is intended to help boost residents’ recovery by covering basic home repairs, out-of-pocket expenses and other essential needs.

By this Tuesday afternoon hours, there is a potential for severe weather, returning to southeast Texas.

In terms of flooding, a high impact event is not expected, but there is the potential for heavy rain, especially with the slower moving storms.

Hundreds of thousands of people are without power in Texas due to severe storms hitting the northeastern region of the state.

Officials said the latest round of storms will bring hurricane-force wind gusts of up to 77 mph (123 km/h) and golf ball-sized hail.
