Prominent Panamanian Entrepreneur: Stanley Motta

When discussing prominent Panamanian entrepreneurs, one cannot overlook the name Stanley Motta.

This Panamanian is one of the leading businessmen in Latin America and is considered one of the wealthiest individuals in Central America.

His entrepreneurial ventures and growth vision make him one of the most visionary figures globally.

Stanley Motta is regarded as one of the Prominent Panamanian entrepreneurs and is considered a leading investor and philanthropist in the Latin American region.

Motta leads investments in Panamanian companies such as Copa Airlines, Banco General, ASSA Compañía de Seguros, Motta Internacional, among others.

Additionally, he serves as the chairman of various Panamanian companies with a presence in the United States.

Stanley Motta was born in Panama City in 1945 and completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans.

He is the son of Alberto Motta Cardoze, known as the “father” of duty-free stores in the Americas.

Currently, he is the majority shareholder of Copa Holdings, the parent company of Panamanian carrier Copa Airlines, its subsidiary Copa Airlines Colombia, and the low-cost airline Wingo.

In 2000, the airline expanded its destinations to the United States, specifically Los Angeles and New York. Five years later, through Copa Holdings, it became the third Latin American airline to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, a significant milestone.

Furthermore, he serves as the president of Motta International, a wholesale and retail distribution company specializing in watches, eyewear, appliances, games, spirits, fragrances, and cosmetics.

Motta completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, United States.

His paternal grandfather, Ernest Motta, emigrated from Jamaica to Panama in 1906 as an electrical engineer for the construction of the first power plant in the Isthmus.

His paternal grandmother, Emily Cardoze de Motta, was Panamanian, the daughter of Isidore Cardoze and Julita Lindo de Cardoze.

Stanley is the son of Alberto Motta Cardoze, who is considered the “father” of duty-free stores in the Americas.

He successfully established the first duty-free store in the hemisphere at Tocumen International Airport in 1949.

Stanley Motta is also part of the TVN Media Group, a conglomerate of media outlets in Panama. Additionally, he serves as a director of Banco General, one of the largest banks in Panama.

Motta has received numerous international accolades for his contributions to the development of Panama and Central America, as well as for promoting Corporate Social Responsibility.

For these reasons and many more, Stanley Motta is considered one of the prominent Panamanian entrepreneurs.
