The swimmer with the most gold medals in Olympic Games history
The American Katie Ledecky became on Saturday the swimmer with the most gold medals in the history of the Olympic Games.
The swimmer with more gold medals in the history of the Olympic Games accumulates a total of nine gold medals, after winning the final of the 800 freestyle in Paris 2024.
A figure to which must be added the four silvers and one bronze that Ledecky counts in an Olympic record that the Marylander debuted with just 15 years in the London 2012 Games after becoming champion of the 800 free.
A title to which Katie Ledecky added four more at the Rio 2016 Games, in which the American won the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle, in addition to contributing decisively to the victory of the United States in the final of the 4×200 freestyle relay.
These were not the only medals Ledecky won in the Brazilian capital, where the American swimmer, who turned 27 last March, had to settle for silver in the 4×100 freestyle final.
The swimmer with the most gold medals in Olympic Games history
The swimmer with the most gold medals in the history of the Olympic Games is a legend in the pool and will rank among the best.
The American extended the harvest five years later at the Tokyo Games, where Katie Ledecky added her third consecutive gold in the 800 freestyle and became the first Olympic champion in the 1,500.
But, even so, she could not surpass Bethesda, the swimmer with more metals – 21 golds and 5 silvers – in the history of the World Championships, she could not repeat neither in the 4×200 relay, in which she was silver, nor in the 400 free, in which she was relegated to second place by the Australian Ariarne Titmus.
A defeat from which Ledecky could not take revenge at the Olympic Games in Paris in which she was again surpassed by the Oceanian in a final of the 400 free in which the American had to settle for the bronze medal.
The swimmer with the most gold medals in the history of the Olympic Games made up for that defeat after winning gold in the 1,500 final and silver in the 4×200 free relay, in which Ledecky again came up against Ariarne Titmus, who led Australia to victory.
