The list of the highest paid players in Major League Soccer

Lionel Messi tops the list of the highest paid players in Major League Soccer, according to a recently released report.

The arrival of Lionel Messi has revolutionized Major League Soccer (MLS) not only in the soccer realm but also in the economic sphere.

From a marketing point of view, the strategy has worked, but a whole movement has been generated from Miami by the huge number of players who shone in Spain.

This handful of players, considered the highest paid in Major League Soccer, have star status.

Since his arrival last July, the Argentine star has made a significant impact.

Recently, the MLS Player Association (MLSPA) unveiled an updated guide to the league’s player salaries, highlighting that the Qatar 2022 World Cup winner tops the list of the highest paid in Major League Soccer.

Messi leads that group, both annually and with additional bonuses.

Messi, according to MLSPA, earns an annual base salary of $12 million, which rises to $20,446,667 when additional compensation is taken into account.

This figure, which corresponds to the agreements until April 25, excludes benefits from his agreements with Apple and Adidas.

The Rosarino star, winner of eight Ballon d’Or awards, is just over five million dollars ahead of the second highest-paid player on the list.

The second highest-paid player in Major League Soccer is Italy’s Lorenzo Insigne, star of Toronto FC (15,400,000).

The podium is completed by his friend and teammate, Spanish central midfielder Sergio Busquets, with earnings of 8,774,996, thus displacing Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri of Chicago Fire (8,153,000) from last year’s list.

The particularity within the case of the former Barcelona is that most of his salary is thanks to his base salary.

In fifth place on the list of the highest paid in Major League Soccer is another Argentinean.

He is River Plate striker Sebastián Driussi, with a total income of 6,722,500 dollars at Austin FC, of which 4.5 million correspond to his annual salary.
