Not winning in the last two matches forced Raúl Chabrand and his team to do some calculations to secure a spot in the Round of 16 among the best third-placed teams. The 4-0 victory, however, helped them secure the second position.

The game was initially delayed for almost an hour due to an electrical storm, but then the Tricolor storm arrived. New Zealand almost ended the first half with a clean sheet until a solo effort from Fidel Barajas broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute.

Barajas’ goal caused a turnaround in the match between Germany and Venezuela, where the European team was leading 3-0. With destiny in their hands, Mexico added a second goal with Adrián Fernández de Lara just two minutes into the second half, sealing the fate for New Zealand.

Stephano Carrillo, the forward who arrived as a star for the Mexican national team, closed the deal with two more goals, completing the emphatic victory.
