Former President Donald Trump lost the lawsuit filed for defamation

Former President Donald Trump lost the lawsuit filed for defamation against him and consequently will have to pay a hefty sum of money.

Trump lost the lawsuit filed against him for defamation after being accused by writer E. Jean Carroll.

Carroll, 80, sued Trump, 77, in November 2019 for denying five months earlier that he had raped her.

The Republican candidate, who leads the polls for the presidential nomination, had already been convicted in May for sexually assaulting the woman.

The jury then imposed a fine of five million dollars, three of which were for defamation. Donald Trump lost the lawsuit but will appeal the decision of the New York court.

Meanwhile, the plaintiff has said that this represents “a great victory for every woman who stands up when knocked down.” Trump still faces 91 criminal charges.

Trump lost the lawsuit filed: Pay $83.3 million

Former President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay $83.3 million as he attacked the woman on his social media after she accused the billionaire of sexually assaulting her.

Friday’s ruling from a New York court is a harsh and costly rebuke for the former President of the United States.

Carroll, 80, who worked as a columnist for ‘Elle’ for over two decades, clasped her lawyers’ hands and smiled as the anonymous jury of seven men and two women delivered their verdict.

According to local media, Donald Trump lost the lawsuit, and upon hearing it, he stormed out of the room during Carroll’s lawyer’s closing arguments.

He returned for his own lawyer’s final plea and for part of the deliberations but left the courtroom half an hour before the verdict was read.

“Absolutely ridiculous!” he said in a statement shortly after.

His lawyer said the verdict was because Trump’s opponents were suing “in states where they know they will have juries like this.”

The jury’s decision has surprised both insiders and outsiders due to the high amount of the compensation, which is broken down into several chapters.

Trump still faces 91 criminal charges in four indictments accusing him of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election, mishandling classified documents, and arranging bribes to a porn star.

Despite losing the lawsuit and amid these trials, the fundraising figure for his campaign continues to rise.

In the three months between the charges in Georgia and Washington, Trump’s campaign raised $45.5 million.

While last year his team reported first-quarter fundraising at $10 million, second-quarter at $35 million, and the aforementioned $45.5 million in the third quarter.

The prosecution had requested ten million dollars, a figure that a damages lawyer slightly raised to 12.

Trump must pay Carroll compensatory damages of $18.3 million: $11 million to finance a reputation repair campaign and $7.3 million for the emotional harm caused by the statements the former president made in 2019.

The candidate for re-election in November faces many complications.

In addition to the four charges against him, two civil lawsuits, both in New York, are added, one for defamation and another for fraud in his family business.
