The United States calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, as reaffirmed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit to Egypt.
On March 21, Antony Blinken arrived in Egypt and reiterated that the United States calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, a region devastated by the clashes between Israel and Palestinian forces.
It is noteworthy that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken shared on Wednesday, March 20, in the Saudi city of Jeddah the U.S. commitment to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
“The Secretary emphasized the U.S. commitment to achieving sustained peace through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel,” U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Wednesday in a statement following Blinken’s meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al Saud.
During their meeting, in the midst of a Middle East tour seeking to reach a truce, Blinken stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination with regional and international partners to resolve the conflict in Gaza.
The United States is calling for a ceasefire in Gaza to prepare for a post-conflict phase in which it envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Perhaps this is a shift in the U.S. position, and contrary to its ally Israel; the U.S. note did not offer further details on the matter.
On the other hand, both leaders discussed the urgent need to protect all civilians in Gaza.

The United States calls for a cease-fire in Gaza, but also seeks an immediate increase in humanitarian assistance to those in need.
The intention is to address the humanitarian crisis facing the people of the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, in Gaza City, the army continued its operation against Al Shifa hospital, where it claimed on Thursday to have killed “more than 140” Hamas fighters.
The aim is “not to allow this place to be controlled” by the Islamist movement, Israeli army chief of staff Herzi Halevi declared on the spot.
A total of 300 suspects were arrested, including dozens of leaders, according to the army.
NGOs and UN agencies continue to warn of the imminent risk of famine in the Gaza Strip, especially in the north.
The United States would support the creation of a Palestinian state
But one of the most relevant aspects of his visit to Egypt is that it is signaled that the United States aspires to an agreement with the creation of a Palestinian state.

Blinken reiterated Tuesday that the entire population of Gaza suffers “severe levels of acute food insecurity.”
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said Israel’s blocking of aid “could be tantamount to the use of famine as a method of warfare”.
While the U.S. is calling for a cease-fire in Gaza, Israel is currently imposing a near-total siege on the enclave and controlling incoming aid.
“More than half the population is living under what we call a ‘critical hunger level,‘” said Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Saudi Arabia announced Wednesday that it will donate $40 million to the agency, which several countries stopped funding after Israel accused it of employing people directly involved in the Oct. 7 attack.
