In this regard, U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles wore a protective mask on Friday while receiving his bronze medal in the 200 meters.
Nobody knew it, neither did he, but his speed in the 200m competition indicated that something was amiss.
Winning a medal with Covid at the Olympics was the achievement of Lyles who tested positive on Tuesday and finished third in the final on Thursday, August 8, behind Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and U.S. teammate Kenneth Bednarek.
Lyles sported a black N95 mask while wearing a blue tracksuit during the medal ceremony.
He took a lap around the track waving to fans, but stayed away from Tebogo and Bednarek.

The 100m champion did not participate in the men’s 4×100 relay final.

Lyles had said after the 200 meters that he wasn’t sure about running for the U.S. in an event that has plagued the country for years.
The Americans haven’t medaled in the 4×100 since Athens 20 years ago and haven’t won since the 2000 Sydney Games.
Noah Lyles shocked the world in the Olympic 200m final at the Stade de France, but not by losing gold to Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, but by taking bronze despite running with covid and having asthma.
After the race, the sprinter collapsed due to lack of oxygen, had to be treated on the track and left in a wheelchair.
The Florida athlete regained the 100m title for Team USA, but his goal was to take at least three gold medals from Paris.
Through his Instagram account, Lyles said that “I think this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. It’s not the result I dreamed of, but it has left me with a lot of joy in my heart.”
Thus, he won the bronze medal and second metal during these Olympics. He was seen with little power, especially in the last 80 meters.
