It’s a question with some variables, but broadly speaking, the rainy season in Mexico runs from May to November.

However, this doesn’t mean you can’t travel to Mexico during this time, but rather that you should consider which part of Mexico to visit.

It’s important to note that Mexico is a large country with varying climates: the northwest coast is more arid, while the south has a more tropical climate that tends to be rainier.

Even during the rainy season in Mexico, it doesn’t usually rain all day. Typically, there are downpours, sometimes quite strong, that last between minutes and a few hours, after which it clears up, allowing you to enjoy the rest of the day.

Best time to visit the Riviera Maya and the rest of the Yucatan Peninsula: To avoid rain and hurricanes, it’s best to visit this area from November/December to March/April. It remains hot during the rest of the year.

Best time to visit Mexico City and central Mexico: The rainiest months are from May to October, but these are also the most pleasant in terms of temperature, ranging between 12°C and 24°C.

From November to February, it can get quite chilly, with lows reaching 6°C. April, May, and June are the hottest months, with maximum temperatures around 27°C.

Best time for Baja California and northern Mexico: The climate is relatively stable year-round, but in summer (July-September), temperatures can rise significantly, exceeding 40°C in Baja California and desert areas.

High season in Mexico: Roughly from November to April. This coincides with the best weather in tourist areas, when there is little rain and less heat.

During this time, you will find better prices on hotels and flights and, of course, fewer people on the beaches of the Riviera Maya.
