U.S. Air Force will remain in the Middle East

The U.S. Air Force will remain in the Middle East given the threat that still prevails in the region.

The Pentagon gave details on Monday about the coordinated attack of missiles launched from Iran, Syria, Yemen and Iraq towards Israel during the weekend of April 13-14.

In that regard, they stressed that U.S. forces intercepted most of the projectiles.

“U.S. forces in the region responded with professionalism and skill to protect Israel from this unprecedented aggression by Iran and its allies,” Pentagon spokesman Air Force Gen. Pat Ryder told a news conference.

Ryder noted that Air Force fighter squadrons deployed in the region, along with Navy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, were actively engaged in the operation to neutralize Iranian missiles and drones during the early hours of Sunday morning.

But the threat remains latent, which is why the U.S. Air Force will remain in the Middle East.

Israel called on more than 30 countries to sanction Iran’s missile program and declare the Revolutionary Guards “terrorist.”

“They successfully attacked and destroyed more than 80 unmanned unidirectional attack UAVs and at least six ballistic missiles intended to strike Israel from Iran and Yemen,” said Gen.

This included a ballistic missile on its launch vehicle and seven UAVs destroyed on the ground in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen prior to launch.

Ryder said U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed appreciation to U.S. troops and reiterated the commitment to defend Israel and its personnel in the region.

“We are taking all necessary steps to protect our strategic ally, Israel, and our personnel deployed in the region,” General Ryder said.

It was also reported that talks are ongoing with international allies to monitor the situation and strengthen the joint posture in the face of Iranian aggression.

The threat is still alive, therefore, the U.S. Air Force will remain in the Middle East.

“We have been in constant contact with our international partners and allies to address this situation,” General Ryder added.

On the other hand, the meeting between the Prime Minister of Iraq and Pentagon officials was highlighted, where they discussed the bilateral defense relationship and Iraq’s role in regional security.

“The meeting between the Prime Minister of Iraq and the U.S. Secretary of Defense underscores the importance of collaboration between our countries to ensure stability in the region,” General Ryder said.

The Pentagon refrained from speculating on a possible Israeli response to the Iranian attack, emphasizing its commitment to conflict containment and stability in the region.

“We do not seek escalation, but we are prepared to take necessary steps to protect our allies and personnel in the region,” Gen. Ryder concluded.

The United States “will remain in close consultation with our Israeli partners, as we have throughout the weekend. Again, we do not seek a broader regional conflict.”
