Saúl Canelo Álvarez has been named the Best Boxer of 2023, according to the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán officially announced Saúl Canelo Álvarez as the undisputed Best Boxer of 2023 at the 61st Convention.

With an impressive record of 60 victories and only two defeats at the age of 33, Mexican boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez confirmed his plans for the next year, stating that he expects to have a fight in May 2024.

Despite his detractors, Canelo Álvarez remains one of the most imposing boxers today.

The 61st WBC Convention, which began on November 13, not only highlighted Álvarez’s achievement but also paid tribute to boxing figures such as Evander Holyfield and Oleksandr Usyk, in an event that brought together the best in this sport worldwide.

The distinction was announced by the president of the green and gold organization, Mauricio Sulaimán, who emphasized the spectacular performance of the Mexican boxer in the ring.

Canelo, the undisputed world champion in the super middleweight division, received the recognition for the fifth time in his career, thus consolidating a brilliant year in the boxing world.

The prestigious award, given by the WBC since 2015, was presented to the boxer in a ceremony where the legendary Julio César Chávez introduced the commemorative belt.

Expressing his gratitude for the award via phone, Saúl Canelo Álvarez conveyed his thanks and satisfaction for being recognized as the Best Boxer of 2023 by the WBC.

This achievement adds to his extensive track record of success, establishing him as one of the best boxers today.

Throughout 2023, Canelo Álvarez starred in two impressive fights. In May, in Guadalajara, he convincingly defeated John Ryder, and in September, he won by unanimous decision against Jermell Charlo, both in the 168-pound category.

With these victories, he achieved three consecutive defenses of the four belts, becoming the first male boxer to reach this milestone.

He surpassed Devin Haney, who holds two title defenses in the lightweight division.
