Survey: Candidates for the Chief of Mexico City

The survey of candidates for the Chief of Mexico City makes something very clear: MORENA is ahead by a wide margin, but who will win the party’s internal competition is still uncertain.

So far, the Morena party is leading the polls as the favorite to win the position.

On the other hand, the Broad Front for Mexico has not yet announced the methodology and important dates for the citizens to choose their candidate.

As of September 13th, Morena had 42.1% of the preferences of the citizens to choose the candidates for the Chief of Mexico City.

These numbers, without taking into account who their candidate will be.

Meanwhile, the opposition coalition had 37.8 percentage points in its favor, and the Citizen Movement party, in third place, had five percent, according to data from Massive Caller.

Candidates for the Chief of Mexico City

It is important to note that, out of the thousand respondents surveyed by the company, just over 15% have not made a decision or plan to vote for another political force.

This number of voters could either tie the race or give one of the parties a greater advantage.

Among the aspirants from the opposition bloc, there are three candidates, two from the PAN party and one from the PRI party: Santiago Taboada, with 23.4% of the preferences; Adrián Rubalcava, with 21.1 percent; and Jorge Romero, with 16.1%.

Sandra Cuevas, who has generated expectations due to her presence on social media and constant criticisms and conflicts with the state government, ranks sixth with six percentage points.

On the Morena side, the possibilities are more limited; at least four public officials are potential contenders: Clara Brugada, Omar García Harfuch, Mario Delgado, and Cuauhtémoc Blanco, although the latter does not appear to have any preference.

But Morena has barely announced the mechanism to determine the candidates for the Chief of Mexico City.

The figure that seems to have the highest amount of support is García Harfuch, former Secretary of Public Security, with 35.1%; followed by Clara Brugada, former mayor of Iztapalapa, with 32.4 percent; and with 13.2%, Mario Delgado, the national leader of the Morena party.

The Massive Caller survey was conducted with a sample of one thousand people with an average margin of error of +/- 3.4%.
