Latinos led the Arizona DBacks to the World Series

Latinos led the Arizona DBacks to reach the World Series, something that was unthinkable just a few months ago.

The Texas Rangers and the Arizona DBacks will star in an unprecedented World Series with a strong presence of Latinos.

On the Texas side, Adolis García led the offensive for the Texas Rangers.

The Cuban outfielder for the Texas Rangers, Adolis García, concluded an incredible series by being selected as the Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series.

Cuban García hit seven home runs and drove in 15 runs, which helped the powerful shortstop lead the Rangers to the World Series.

Latinos led the Arizona DBacks

Meanwhile, the Dominican second baseman Ketel Marte, one of the heroes in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship Series, was named the Most Valuable Player of the playoff that ended on Tuesday in a decisive seventh game at Citizens Bank Park.

Marte batted .387 with 12 hits, four doubles, a triple, and a stolen base to guide the Diamondbacks to their second appearance in the World Series. The Dominican hit a double that helped manufacture the crucial second run in the Diamondbacks’ 4-2 victory in the final game.

Marte set an all-time record by hitting safely in 16 consecutive games, starting a streak. With 19 hits in 2023 and 26 in his postseason career, Marte tied Arizona records held by outfielder Steve Finley.

The Latinos guided the Arizona DBacks, and the name of the Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno can be added.

Marte is the sixth Dominican player to win the Most Valuable Player in a Championship Series and the second to achieve it in the National League.

Albert Pujols also won in the old circuit’s final in 2006, while Jeremy Pena (2022), Nelson Cruz (2011), Plácido Polanco (2006), and David Ortiz (2004) achieved it in the American League.

In the World Series, Marte and Arizona will face the Texas Rangers and the Cuban outfielder Adolis García. This marks the sixth time that both MVPs of the Championship Series are Latinos.

The last occurrence was in 2021 when the Cuban Yordan Álvarez won in the American League, and the Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario won in the National League.

Latinos led the DBacks in a return to the World Series with uncertain prospects, although the balance seems to favor Texas, who have never won this tournament.

So far, the Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno has maintained an average of .279 in 12 games this postseason, with an OBP of .340, a slugging percentage of .512, an OPS of .852, 12 hits, 1 double, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 12 strikeouts. A strong performance to kick off the World Series starting next Friday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have six Latino hitters for the 2023 World Series, which will begin this Friday at the Globe Life Field in Texas, the home of the Rangers.
