Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Kirchner: Critique of the United States justice system
Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Kirchner, criticized the United States justice system for its decision regarding the nationalization of YPF.
Vice President Cristina Kirchner spoke for the first time about the multimillion-dollar ruling against Argentina for the nationalization of YPF.
Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Kirchner, accused the United States justice system of favoring vulture funds.
Kirchner read a portion of a congresswoman’s presentation that alleged bribes from Paul Singer to a Supreme Court justice.
The United States justice system ordered Argentina to pay 16 billion dollars for the nationalization of YPF, which was carried out during her government under the economic management of Kicillof.
Cristina Kirchner stated that the truth cannot be ignored.
“And if you don’t believe me, look and listen to U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a hearing of the House Oversight Committee in the United States, denouncing bribes from Paul Singer to a Supreme Court member who ruled in favor of the Vulture Funds and against our country for the handsome sum of 2.4 billion dollars.”
Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Kirchner: Criticism
She estimated that the U.S. Judiciary favored the Vulture Funds over Argentina.
During her public accusation, the U.S. congresswoman pointed out that Singer shared and paid for an expensive fishing trip attended by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
Alito was one of the justices who ruled in favor of the fund that was litigating against Argentina for an amount close to 2.4 billion dollars.
“Paul Singer, who generously sponsored this trip, appeared before the Court at least ten times in cases where the judicial press and major media outlets routinely covered his role, so it was public knowledge that he had matters before the Court. And in 2014, in fact, Judge Samuel Alito, along with the Court, agreed to settle a crucial issue in a decades-long battle between Singer’s fund and the nation of Argentina,” Ocasio-Cortez said in the House of Representatives while showing a photo of Singer with Alito on a fishing trip to Alaska.
Alberto Fernández shared her message and stated that “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s accusation is extremely serious and scandalous.”
Last June, the Supreme Court justice targeted by the Democratic congresswoman had already defended himself against the allegations in an article published in The Wall Street Journal.
He added that he was unaware of Singer’s connection to cases before the court, including one in which the court issued a 7-1 decision in favor of one of Singer’s businesses, with Alito in the majority.
However, Singer’s connection to the case “Republic of Argentina v. NML Capital” was widely publicized.
Cristina Kirchner and Alberto Fernández’s criticisms of the U.S. justice system come in the midst of the impactful ruling that requires Argentina to pay 16 billion dollars for the nationalization of YPF.
