The INE is putting a brake on Claudia Sheinbaum

The INE is putting a brake on Claudia Sheinbaum because they believe her events have political campaigning and can only be held in enclosed spaces.

Regarding this, Claudia Zavala, the chairwoman of the INE Complaints Commission, pointed out that Claudia Sheinbaum is conducting campaigning events with electoral overtones, so they have ordered to limit her tours to enclosed spaces and exclusively for party members.

The National Electoral Institute (INE), through the Complaints Commission, has decided to restrict Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s tours.

The INE is putting a brake on Claudia Sheinbaum in her role as coordinator of the Fourth Transformation Defense Committees, as they believe there is a violation of fairness in the 2024 electoral contest.

In an extraordinary session held on the afternoon of Monday, October 16, the Complaints and Accusations Commission instructed the presidential candidate to adjust these actions in response to a complaint filed by Jorge Álvarez Maynez, a member of the Citizen Movement party.

The original proposal presented by the Technical Unit for Contentious Matters to the commission was to completely suspend these events. However, councilors Arturo Castillo and Rita Bell López suggested confining them to enclosed spaces and directing them exclusively to party members.

The INE is putting a stop to Sheinbaum because the events seem more like the beginning of an electoral campaign, which goes against the regulations.

Since winning the Morena party’s poll, Sheinbaum Pardo has carried out 18 tours, with “hundreds and thousands of party members” in the same number of regions, and she plans to hold 14 more events since she has stated that she will tour the entire country.

Councilor Arturo Castillo emphasized that on various occasions, the Morena party member has made statements such as “we have to win in 2024, we have to achieve a two-thirds majority in Congress,” even acknowledging that the actions she is about to take could result in sanctions from the Institute.

This indicates that she is fully aware of what she is doing and does it nonetheless.

In this regard, councilor Claudia Zavala, chairwoman of the Complaints Commission, criticized the candidate for being “fully aware” of the rules but still violating them to engage in “campaigning with electoral overtones,” even though the pre-campaigns have not yet officially begun.

As a result, the measure includes a warning that if she violates these restrictions, her tours will be completely suspended.

The former mayor of Mexico City will have her last two rallies at the end of October, one in the State of Mexico and the other in Mexico City.
