The controversy over Xóchitl Gálvez’s university degree continues
The controversy surrounding Xóchitl Gálvez’s university degree remains the subject of opinions, criticisms, and supporters of the candidate.
In recent days, opinions regarding Xóchitl Gálvez’s university degree have been varied.
Xóchitl Gálvez, the future candidate for the Presidency from the opposition alliance “Va por México,” made it clear that the work she submitted for her degree was not a thesis.
Furthermore, she stated that she would be willing to have her degree revoked if irregularities were found.
“Let me clarify, it’s not a thesis; it’s a report. My degree is based on professional experience, not a written document.
If a 2 or 3 percent text deficiency is enough to revoke my degree, I will accept the decision of my beloved UNAM and submit a new work for my degree,” Gálvez declared in a video released on the night of September 20th.
It should be noted that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, called upon the Ethics Committee to review alleged plagiarism in her graduation work.
“I’m not scared, and I won’t back down. They’ve already tried to tear down my house, said I’m not indigenous, not a businesswoman, didn’t sell gelatinas, and now they’re saying I’m not an engineer.
Tomorrow, they’ll say I’m not a woman, but I have the guts, and plenty of them,” Xóchitl Gálvez added.
Furthermore, she challenged the ruling party to continue their attacks, as she was prepared for 256 more.
The election date is set for June 2, 2024.
Xóchitl Gálvez’s University Degree: Did She Fail?
In light of the alleged plagiarism and errors in a text that was part of her graduation, Gálvez acknowledged the controversy.
However, she also admitted her mistake. “Yes, I messed up,” she told the media on Wednesday at the Chamber of Deputies.
The issue of Xóchitl Gálvez’s university degree adds to other controversies surrounding the candidate, who will virtually be the opponent of Claudia Sheinbaum from the MORENA party.
She also noted that most of the work she used for her graduation was based on technical aspects from manuals.
She estimated that these did not have author names, so she did not include the corresponding bibliographic citations, which she acknowledged as an error.
With this controversy, Xóchitl Gálvez faces another week of accusations, as prior to the plagiarism issue, she was accused of residing in her house in the Miguel Hidalgo district despite irregularities. She allegedly obtained the house after receiving permits for its use.
Apparently, it was constructed with the support of Gálvez’s companies, as she was the mayor of the district at that time.
Due to the alleged conflict of interest and controversies surrounding the issuance of permits, Gálvez was singled out by the ruling party.
Senator Xóchitl Gálvez stated that if UNAM decides to revoke her professional degree, she will comply with the decision and submit a new work to obtain her degree from the Faculty of Engineering.
