There will be no division in MORENA

Regarding the former chancellor’s allegations, the Mexican president insisted that there was no favoritism in the selection of the MORENA presidential candidate, and there was no manipulation in favor of the former Chief of Government of Mexico City.

“I have already handed over the leadership of the transformation movement to Claudia Sheinbaum, who is exceptional and extraordinary; a woman with convictions, principles, and honesty, with very good feelings, I am pleased,” he said.

But beyond Sheinbaum’s appointment, there is a significant faction within MORENA that supports Marcelo Ebrard, who until recently was Mexico’s foreign minister.

“In Marcelo’s case, I’ve already said it, he’s my friend and colleague, I esteem him, and I can’t say more. Our opponents would like there to be a fracture in the movement, but there isn’t and there won’t be, because our people are in favor of transformation,” said the Mexican president.

While Ebrard has been a staunch defender of President López Obrador, and despite differences over the appointment, he makes it clear that he supports AMLO.

“We must not allow these practices, which are a virus, to be in the bloodstream of MORENA because it will have a very devastating effect,” explained Ebrard.

He also expressed, “I have immense affection for President López Obrador; I have been his most loyal collaborator; I would never harm him for political reasons, but I have to say this because MORENA took a lot of work to organize and build,” said the Mexican leader.

López Obrador has asked Ebrard to reconsider and not assist the right with his positions, although he has also stated that the former chancellor is a free man, and he will respect the decision he makes.
