There is now a Shakira Day
Finally, there’s a date for Shakira day, as Spotify announced a day in tribute to the Colombian singer.
Spotify will honor the renowned Colombian artist by declaring September 29th as Shakira Day.
On that day, September 29th, it marks the 25th anniversary of the release of her album “Dónde están los ladrones,” which was her first major success that catapulted her to the big stages. As a tribute, there will now be Shakira Day.
“Spotify announces #ShakiraDay, responding to the call from fans who have played a crucial role in amplifying this message.
This initiative is a tribute to the artist who has proudly represented Colombia to the world for many years,” said Manuela Echeverry, Spotify’s Head of Artist and Label Partnerships for the Andean region.
This day commemorates a quarter of a century since the release of her fourth studio album, “Dónde están los ladrones”
This production includes hits like “Ciega, sordomuda” and “Si te vas,” which became the best-selling Spanish-language album in the United States and are still some of her most recognized songs today as the global superstar she has become.
“A remarkable moment in my career since I made my worldwide debut with ‘Dónde están los ladrones’ is having performed at three World Cups, participating in a Super Bowl, and debuting in the Billboard Top 10 after more than 30 years!” Shakira expressed to Spotify’s For The Record blog.
This initiative is part of the campaign that Spotify launched in recent days in Colombia and Latin America, #ShakiraMereceUnDía (Shakira Deserves a Day).

They also conducted a survey revealing that 72% of surveyed Colombians believe that the artist from Barranquilla undoubtedly deserves a day in her honor.
“It’s also an opportunity for our country to celebrate our music,” Echeverry added.
According to the Spotify survey, 37% believe that Shakira has transformed Colombia’s image on a global scale, while 31% appreciate the boost and influence she has had on other artists.
Shakira is experiencing a new golden moment after her breakup with footballer Gerard Piqué. Amidst her personal life, she has released hits like “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and “TQG” (alongside fellow Colombian artist Karol G), which have reached the top position on Spotify’s Global Top charts.
“In the case of Colombia, these songs, along with ‘Te felicito’ and ‘Acróstico,‘ have been the most played by the artist in the last 12 months,” the platform stated.
Shakira was the star at the MTV Music Video Awards (VMA) gala this week, where she received a career tribute, the Video Vanguard Award, which she dedicated to her “Latin American people,” and another award shared with her fellow countrywoman Karol G for their collaboration “TQG.”
This Saturday, Shakira inaugurated another school through her foundation, this time in her hometown of Barranquilla.
