The Mexican World Cup cycle started with some doubts

The Mexican World Cup cycle began against Australia, and despite a comeback, things are starting with criticism against coach Jaime Lozano.

It will indeed be a pressure-free qualification journey, but there is a need to field a strong team that delivers a good performance for Mexico.

Mexico’s goal is to achieve its best-ever performance in history, which means reaching the semifinals.

To accomplish this, Mexico’s World Cup cycle must be comprehensive and bring out the best in every player.

Mexico’s 2-2 result against Australia is not particularly inspiring and calls for caution in a Mexican National Team with absentees, and perhaps some confidence from the coach.

The most noteworthy aspect is that Mexico came back from a 0-2 deficit to secure a 2-2 draw.

Raúl Jiménez, from the penalty spot, and César Huerta with a stunning goal orchestrated the Tricolor’s comeback against Australia.

Another aspect to refine in Mexico’s World Cup cycle is defense and organization on the field, as the two goals conceded clearly indicate.

In the first goal, Guillermo Ochoa was at fault by giving away a corner kick, and Johan Vásquez was caught a meter behind, which was exploited by Harry Souttar.

In the second goal, Luis Romo fouled Riley McGree from behind, who was attempting to break away from Julián Araujo.

Martin Boyle converted the penalty without any trouble against Memo Ochoa.

On the other hand, Santi Giménez missed a penalty, which adds to the historical debt of the national team when it comes to deciding from the spot.

At least, it seems that Mexico found the right team in the second half to handle the September commitments and organize for those in October.

On Tuesday, they will face Uzbekistan (who lost 0-3 to the USA this Saturday) in Atlanta, and next month, they will play against Ghana in Charlotte and Germany (who lost 1-4 to Japan) in Philadelphia.

Mexico’s World Cup cycle, with Jaime Lozano making his official debut as the head coach of the Mexican National Team against Australia, leaves many doubts.

Mexican World Cup cycle

Among various aspects, Héctor Herrera returned to the starting lineup for the Mexican National Team but appeared out of form and had difficulties against Australia’s midfield.

It was only with the introduction of Érick Sánchez alongside Cortizo that Mexico created more opportunities.

On the other hand, Raúl Jiménez, with his experience, had a better performance and secured his place in the Tricolor.

We reiterate that young players like César Huerta, Erick Sánchez, and Jordi Cortizo demonstrated that they have the quality to compete for a spot in Mexico’s World Cup cycle.

A positive point for Jaime Lozano is that he showed his ability to react with the right substitutions to rectify what seemed like a Tricolor defeat until the 83rd minute when César Huerta, who came on as a substitute, scored a fantastic goal to level the match 2-2 with Australia.

The Mexican World Cup cycle has started with many doubts but with the necessary tools to arrive well at the 2026 World Cup.
