The Mexican women in Nike’s ad illustrate the stories of five influential players in sports.
“Lose it all, win it all” is the slogan of Nike’s new advertising campaign, which showcases the stories of five Mexican football players. The Mexican women in Nike’s ad aim to inspire girls and women to pursue their dreams beyond prejudices and stigmas.
The two-minute commercial was shared on Wednesday, October 11th, on the social media of the Mexican Women’s League. “Nike presents the stories of Rebeca Bernal, Alison González, Jacquie Ovalle, Nancy Antonio, and Karla Nieto, who seek to inspire more girls and women to overcome everything that prevents them from winning.”
Nike has depicted the stories of each of the players, who have overcome various obstacles, including gender stigmas, to become footballers. “Not all of us want heels; some of us want cleats.
Lose the fear of creating your own traditions,” says player Nancy Antonio.
The commercial went viral on social media thanks to its inspirational message and its support for women’s soccer.

Here are the five Mexican women in Nike’s ad:
Rebeca Bernal, the 26-year-old captain of the Mexican club Monterrey, joined the renowned team in 2017. According to the club’s website, Bernal is a “solid central defender known for her powerful long-range shots, headers, and penalty kick accuracy.”
She won the championship with Monterrey in 2019 and 2021. At the age of 15, she was selected for the U-17 Women’s National Team, which competed in the Concacaf U-17 Women’s Championship.
In January 2017, she joined the Mexican Women’s National Team.
Alison González, a 21-year-old forward for the America Femenil club, is one of the stars of the Liga MX Femenil. Fans call her “Aligol” thanks to her skill and precision with the ball. In 2021, she became the league’s top scorer.
She joined Club America as a forward in 2022, but her career began at the age of 4 in boys’ teams. In 2021, she was called up to the Women’s National Team.
González shared on Instagram that her parents had always dreamt of having gymnast daughters, but when she started playing football, she realized it was what she truly wanted. She mentioned that it was her grandparents who took her to her first football classes.
Lizbeth Ovalle, currently a midfielder for Tigres, is described as “the one who works magic with a ball at her feet.” At 23 years old, she joined the team in 2017 and has already won five national titles.
In 2018, she was selected as the scorer of the most beautiful goal in the U-20 World Cup in France, according to Liga MX. She is also a national team player.
Nancy Antonio, another Mexican woman in Nike’s ad, is 27 years old and has accumulated four national titles with Tigres in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
The current national team player shared the Nike commercial on Instagram with the message: “12 years ago, I lost the fear of breaking traditions.”
Finally, Karla Nieto, a midfielder in the Pachuca club and the Mexican Women’s National Team. She started playing football at the age of 6 and was part of the creation of the Liga MX Femenil.
