The President of Mexico rejected the proposal to demolish Xóchitl Gálvez’s residence and recommended showing respect to the opponent.

During the morning presidential conference at the National Palace, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, accompanied by members of his cabinet and in front of the press, rejected MORENA’s proposal to demolish Xóchitl Gálvez’s presidential candidate residence.

The controversy arose after it became known that the housing complex where Gálvez resides lacks permits.

In this regard, López Obrador does not endorse the proposal from the leadership of MORENA in Mexico City to demolish Xóchitl Gálvez’s residence due to a lack of permits and a potential conflict of interest in its construction.

“They are talking about destroying the house that was supposedly built without permits, and that we should destroy the house of someone who is a representative of a movement, no, neither burning books, nor using the gallows or the hammer to destroy anything, and we should see each other as adversaries to overcome, not as enemies to destroy,” emphasized López Obrador.

Demolish Xóchitl Gálvez’s residence

Xóchitl Gálvez’s house is located in Miguel Hidalgo and could be demolished due to irregularities. A group of Morena members in the Mexico City Congress has requested the current mayor of that delegation to demolish Xóchitl Gálvez’s residence, which is part of the housing complex.

The request demands an investigation and closure of the housing complex where the candidate for the Broad Front for Mexico lives, arguing that its construction is illegal since it lacks the Use and Occupation permit issued by the Delegation.

Among the possible sanctions, demolition of the building could be considered, although an investigation file must be compiled first, followed by the verification of any wrongdoing.

So far, Mayor Mauricio Tabe has not initiated any investigation into the matter.

Some MORENA leaders explained that Gálvez was the delegate of Miguel Hidalgo between 2015 and 2018 and granted construction permits for the residential complex where she currently lives.

The residential complex is valued at 75 million pesos.

The construction company responsible for building the luxury complex also contracted companies owned by Gálvez.

On the other hand, according to Romo’s data, construction permits were issued by the municipality in 2017.

However, in 2020, the government of Víctor Romo denied the Use and Occupation permit authorization due to excess construction work.
