Mexican President resignation of the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice

Mexico’s president accepted the resignation of the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, who made his announcement this November 7th.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador led the morning press conference this Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from the National Palace.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador accepted the resignation of the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice; however, he said that the Senate of the Republic has the last word.

Questioned about the resignation of the former president of the Supreme Court, the Mexican president said that no one can be forced to continue in a position in which they no longer want to be.

“Yes, I accept it (the resignation) and I send the official letter to the Senate, which is the one who has to decide whether to accept it or not.

The procedure is, according to the Constitution: to present the resignation, I have already accepted it and the Senate must approve it, if they approve it, I will send a letter for the substitution and I will start to see who I propose,” AMLO explained.

Thus, the president accepted the resignation of the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice and already has a terna on the table, more, however, he specified the situation.

“Let’s see if I am lucky and get it right because I have proposed four and two of them came out ‘conservas’,” he said sarcastically.

Regarding the slate he will send to replace Zaldívar, AMLO said that it will be made up only of women, since they are “more honest and hard-working”.

In this context, López Obrador ‘rushed’ the Judiciary to return the 15 billion pesos of the 13 trusts cancelled to deliver the resource to the victims of Acapulco.

“That is what matters to me, the 15 billion for Acapulco. The Secretary of the Interior is looking at it, but has not informed me. I want to see it because it can be resolved soon and it will help a lot,” he insisted.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that by November 20, 2023 at the latest, he will sign a decree to use the more than 20 thousand kilometers of concessioned railroads to create passenger train lines throughout the country.

The Mexican President clarified that in order to achieve this goal, no concession will be expropriated and that the companies that currently hold the licenses will be called upon to present passenger train projects, which will run on the same tracks where freight trains run today.

“I want a decree to be announced by November 20 by which we are going to make the decision to use, summoning those who now have the concessions granted by Ernesto Zedillo, all of Mexico’s railroad tracks that can be used for passenger trains, more than 20 thousand kilometers of railroad tracks”, AMLO said at the National Palace.
