The looting of a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles highlights the need for more police presence; the robbery was consummated without any resistance.
Following the looting of a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Councilman Tim McOsker is calling on the city to provide more police officers.
As well as other security resources after another 7-Eleven was looted by a large group of thieves on Saturday who managed to escape.
The looting of a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, when police received several calls of a possible street takeover.
There was allegedly a disturbance inside a 7-Eleven in the area of Gaffey and First streets, an on-duty commander at the LAPD Harbor Station told City News Service.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, it was too late, a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles had been looted.
The suspects had already fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival, according to the watch commander.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart told CNS that paramedics were dispatched at 1:38 a.m. to the 700 block of West First Street regarding a shooting, but were called off by the LAPD.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, between 30 and 50 people vandalized the store, knocked over shelves and stole $10,000 to $20,000 worth of food, as well as about 1,000 packs of cigarettes worth $15,000, $500 in cash and $20,000 worth of lottery tickets.
“The looting of a 7-Eleven store in Los Angeles last night at 1st and Gaffey, where a large group looted a 7-Eleven, is a continuation of a pattern we’re seeing throughout Los Angeles,” said McOsker, whose 15th District includes San Pedro.
“It’s not just about property damage or stolen items, it’s also about a victim, an employee, fearing for his or her safety and a neighborhood that is afraid and now doesn’t have a convenience store on the corner,” he added.
Our officers must be able to respond quickly to prevent these incidents from happening.”
It was not immediately clear if any of the thieves who robbed the San Pedro store were also involved in the previous 7-Eleven robberies that occurred in the Hollywood area.
On August 16, three robberies occurred within minutes of each other at 7-Elevens in the Hollywood area.
They involved a large number of juveniles who stole merchandise, vandalized stores and escaped on bicycles.
The previous Friday, Aug. 9, another 7-Eleven store looting occurred in Los Angeles, when about 50 youths trashed the location in the 8500 block of Olympic Boulevard near La Cienega Boulevard outside Beverly Hills and stole merchandise, including cigarettes, before riding off on bicycles.
