Checo Pérez is not guaranteed at Red Bull for 2025
Checo Pérez is not guaranteed at Red Bull for 2025, as assumed by the team’s director.
Red Bull Racing’s Team Principal, Christian Horner, did not confirm the continuity of Mexican driver Sergio Pérez for 2025.
They are currently exploring options within the Austrian team once his contract expires at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Checo Pérez is not assured at Red Bull, and perhaps the Mexican driver’s performance is not in line with the team’s expectations.
In an interview with Sky Sports News, Horner discussed the future of Red Bull and acknowledged that they are keeping an eye on several drivers who could become Checo’s successor.
In case they might be the new teammate for Max Verstappen from 2025 onward. “There are many drivers who we also need to keep an eye on.
There’s a generation of drivers right now that are highly talented. Now, being a teammate to Max is never going to be easy, and some drivers might be up for that challenge, and some may not.
But, of course, aside from the drivers that we have internally, we keep an eye on the driver market,” he said.
Horner explained that ideally, the successor would come from their pool of talents. “If we don’t feel that capacity exists, we will look outside of that to see who’s available,” he added.
Horner spoke about Checo Pérez’s future at Red Bull and mentioned that they are monitoring various drivers who could take the Mexican’s place.
The head of the Austrian team stated that Red Bull’s primary goal is to have the best drivers in the Championship and noted that there are many drivers who aspire to be part of the Milton Keynes-based team.
“As you can imagine, there’s quite a bit of interest from certain quarters in driving a Red Bull car.
Max is operating at such a level where his confidence, commitment, and talent are absolute at the moment, and it’s hard to imagine someone beating him within the same team.
But there’s a lot of talent out there, and, of course, what we want are the two best drivers we can field,” he expressed.
Despite Horner hinting that Checo Pérez is not guaranteed at Red Bull, the Red Bull Racing Team Principal expressed his support for the Mexican driver.
He acknowledged that Japan was frustrating and challenging for him but expressed confidence that Sergio will achieve good results in the remaining races of the season.
“Japan was frustrating and tough for him, but he will bounce back. I’m sure he has enough races left with the six remaining Grands Prix to get some big results by the end of the season.
He has at least a bit of a points cushion for the weekend over Lewis and even more over Fernando (Alonso),” he commented.
