“Biden’s Objective “The Latino vote in Nevada”

President Joe Biden sweeps the Democratic primaries in South Carolina, and according to experts, he aims to win the Latino vote in Nevada.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, secured a victory in the Democratic primaries of South Carolina last night, February 3rd.

But now he faces a bigger challenge: the Latino vote in Nevada, primaries to be held next Tuesday, February 6th.

Biden plans to campaign in Nevada this Sunday, crucial not only for the Democratic primaries but also for the general elections in November.

The Democratic primaries in Nevada are vital, as it is considered a “swing state,” capable of defining who will be the next occupant of the White House.

Therefore, his proposal must be bold but also considering the growing Latino vote in Nevada.

Given the importance of this state, Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the party’s organ, have been striving for months to connect with Nevada voters to encourage them to participate in the electoral process, DNC President Jaime Harrison explained to EFE.

Connecting with the Latino vote in Nevada “Our main goal is to engage in conversations with people, make sure they know we value them.

We want to make sure they know the things we have achieved and are doing to serve their communities,” highlighted Harrison, who is African American and hails from South Carolina himself.

The Latino vote in Nevada

The goal, according to this spokesperson, is to inform voters about the actions Biden has taken to create jobs, improve infrastructure, lower the price of medications like insulin, and expand internet access to prevent, for example, parents from having to park at a McDonald’s so their children can do homework.

Another purpose of the Democrats is to alert about the dangers of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), the favorite to win the Republican nomination, who once claimed that migrants “poison the country’s blood,” using rhetoric previously employed by Adolf Hitler.

The Democratic primaries in Nevada are the next step. In that state, 22% of voters are Latino, according to the Pew Center, and many of them live in Las Vegas, where Biden will be this Sunday.

Given these numbers, the Latino vote in Nevada will be crucial.

The first stop of the Democratic contest was in South Carolina, where this Saturday, Biden garnered 96.2% of the vote and left his two main rivals far behind: self-help author Marianne Williamson (2.1%) and Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips (1.7%).

The primaries in South Carolina were relevant to demonstrate Biden’s ability to mobilize the party base, especially the African American community, which represents 60% of the Democratic electorate.

South Carolina and Nevada are the first appointments on the Democratic primary calendar because, at Biden’s initiative, the party has changed the primary schedule, wresting the top spots from Iowa and New Hampshire that they had held since 1972.

The reason, as explained by Harrison, lies in Biden’s desire to amplify the voices of the African American and Hispanic minorities in the selection of the party’s candidate.

Biden’s campaign has allocated $25 million to radio ads targeting the Hispanic and African American communities.

But Biden’s campaign seeks to attract, especially, the Latino vote in Nevada, due to its high presence and media impact.

In 2020, Biden defeated Trump in Nevada by just 2.4 percentage points. In the previous election cycle, in 2016, then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton also won in Nevada against Trump by a narrow margin.

In addition to the Democratic primaries in Nevada, to be held next Tuesday, February 6th, Republican primaries will also take place, but the only candidate on the ballot will be former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley.

Trump will participate in the Nevada caucuses two days later, on February 8th, in a particularly complicated process that practically ensures the victory of the former president.
