Two U.S. strategic bombers were withdrawn by Russian air forces
Two U.S. strategic bombers were withdrawn by Russian air forces for being close to Russian airspace.
The Russian Defense Ministry has reported an incident in the Barents Sea, where a Russian fighter jet was deployed in response to the presence of two U.S. strategic bombers near Russian airspace.
According to Russian officials, after detecting the approach of “two U.S. strategic bombers,” a MiG-31 fighter was activated to identify them.
The “aerial targets” were confirmed as “a pair of U.S. Air Force B-1B strategic bombers.”
However, once visual contact was established with the Russian fighter, the U.S. bombers changed their course away from the Russian border, avoiding any airspace violation.
The Russian Defense Ministry assured that there was no violation of Russia’s state border by the two U.S. strategic bombers.
And they further explained that the flight of the Russian aircraft was carried out in accordance with international rules on the use of airspace over neutral waters and respecting the established security measures.

Two U.S. strategic bombers intercepted by Russian aircraft
So far, no official comment has been received from the U.S. on this incident.
The most recent B-1B movement was last February, when the U.S. conducted bombing raids in Iraq and Syria against Iranian Revolutionary Guard targets and allied militias in response to the deaths of three U.S. servicemen at Jordan’s ‘Tower 22′ military base near the Syrian border.
After sighting the two U.S. strategic bombers “the Russian aircraft returned to its base. It was not allowed to violate Russia’s border,” Russian Defense added.
The Russian command stressed that the fighter’s flight was conducted in strict compliance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters and respecting security measures.

Russia regularly reports such incidents in the vicinity of Russian borders.
Prior to the case of these two U.S. strategic bombers, another incident took place in the Black Sea, when a Russian Su-30 fighter intercepted a spy plane and two British fighters.
Five other similar incidents involving French, Norwegian and U.S. aircraft took place between September and March in the Black, Norwegian, Baltic and Barents Seas.
On the other hand, it has been known that several groups of U.S. Air Force bombers had been deployed to various bases last weekend, two B-52 Stratofortress landed at the Diego Garcia Naval Support Facility in the Indian Ocean on March 22, and two B-1 Lancers landed at Moron on March 24.
