Shakira’s statue in Barranquilla, the singer’s hometown, is progressing at a good pace and will be ready soon. In a video posted on the official X account, the Mayor of Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo, showcased the current state of the massive Shakira statue.
The Shakira statue in Barranquilla will become one of the icons of the coastal city. The work is being sculpted by master artist Yino Márquez, and according to the Mayor of Barranquilla, it will be a great tribute to the Barranquilla native.
The statue is made of cast bronze and will stand at a height of 6.40 meters.
Sculptor Márquez shared the progress of the work from his workshop located in the La Paz neighborhood of the ‘Golden Gate of Colombia.’
“You’re seeing the modeling at 70% completion for the Shakira sculpture. We’ve had 45 days of work. The lower part is almost defined, and the upper part needs some details,” expressed the artist. He also noted that they are making the mold to proceed with the casting. “We’ll cast it in sections to give us the form.”
Mayor Pumarejo stated, “The sculpture will be a recognition of Shakira, a Barranquilla artist who gave our culture its place.” However, Shakira didn’t fail to express her excitement. She wrote a message from her X account, highlighting the work of sculptor Yino Márquez.

In terms of appearance, the monument will showcase a honey-like coloration, with the skirt crafted from a blend of bronze and aluminum.

Yino Marquez, a master of fine arts, is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts (Fine Arts) at the University of the Atlantic, with a specialization in Urban Regeneration Art and Society from the University of Barcelona, Spain.
As a sculptor, he has completed over 18 sculptural installations in the public urban spaces of various Colombian cities. Currently, in addition to practicing his profession as a sculptor, he serves as the Academic Coordinator for the Visual Arts department at the District School of Arts in Barranquilla.”
