The U.S. Embassy in Cuba resumes some visas

The U.S. Embassy in Cuba resumes some visas has announced that as of August 19.

Among the visa services to include some work and exchange visas; B1/B2 visa services remain suspended, a State Department official said.

The U.S. Embassy in Cuba resumes some visas, including temporary work visas approved by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and exchange visitor program participants with an approved certificate of eligibility will be able to schedule a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

This sudden change does not include nonimmigrant visas for persons seeking to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1 visa) or tourism (B-2 visa).

However, Cubans will still be required to travel to another U.S. embassy or consulate for routine B1/B2 visa interviews.

The U.S. Embassy in Cuba resumes some visas include the following categories:

  • H Visa Temporary workers or trainees.
  • J Visa Exchange visitors
  • Visa L Intra-company Transfers
  • O Visa Workers of Extraordinary Ability or Achievement
  • Visa P Athletes, entertainers and entertainers
  • Visa Q Participants in international cultural exchange programs Visa R Members of a religious denomination
  • R Visa R Members of a religious denomination performing religious work

Applicants must demonstrate visa eligibility in accordance with U.S. laws and regulations.

In order to schedule an interview appointment for the H, L, O, P, Q and R categories, applicants must submit evidence of their approved petition (Form I-797 Notice of Action) from USCIS.
