The candidate for vice-president of the Democrats in the United States: Tim Walz
The candidate for vice-president of the Democrats in the United States has already been defined, and it is Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, and considered part of the moderate wing of the political organization.
Kamala Harris chose Governor Tim Walz as the vice-presidential candidate of the Democrats in the United States.
Harris invited the former teacher and Army National Guard veteran to join the Democratic ticket and help lead the party’s fight to defeat Donald Trump.
The selection – which Harris personally informed Walz via video call, according to a source familiar with the matter-caps the short but rapid rise of the Midwest Democrat from a relative unknown figure to one of the prime movers in the party’s attacks on Donald Trump and the MAGA agenda.
The Democrats’ vice presidential nominee pick in the U.S. resulted from the most accelerated vice presidential search in modern history from a shortlist that included a half-dozen Democrats.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly were considered.
The vice president held in-person interviews with Walz, Shapiro and Kelly on Sunday.
Although Harris and Walz had little prior relationship, aides said Harris was increasingly enthusiastic about Walz’s authenticity and found a warm chemistry with him during a final meeting Sunday at his Naval Observatory residence.
Harris was impressed “by his authenticity,” a person close to the process told CNN.

The U.S. Democratic vice presidential nominee
Walz, a former educator, is currently in his second term as governor of Minnesota and chairs the Democratic Governors Association.
He previously served 12 years in Congress, representing a conservative-leaning rural district that, both before and after his term, has been largely dominated by Republicans.
In the run-up to his election as Harris’ running mate, Walz had first been an outspoken supporter of Joe Biden after his disastrous debate performance, as calls grew for the president to drop out of his re-election race.
When Biden dropped out, Walz endorsed Harris the next day and has since emerged as a reliable, forceful and cutting advocate for the Democratic challenger.
The choice of Walz also underscores the Harris campaign’s focus on a path to victory that prizes the “blue wall” states of the Midwest.
