Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention
Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention was aimed at explaining the threat Donald Trump poses to America.
Michelle Obama returned to her hometown of Chicago Tuesday night to offer a rousing and forceful endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Michelle Obama’s speech was in the midst of the second night of the Democratic National Convention being held in the Windy City.
In Michelle Obama’s speech, she pulled no punches when it came to talking about Donald Trump and the threat that, in her opinion, he poses to the country and democracy.
And, in perhaps her most candid and public comments to date, Obama spoke of the racism she and Barack Obama experienced during their eight years in the White House.
She explained that there were attacks that were often perpetuated by Trump, the architect of the so-called “birtherism” conspiracy.
“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us…His limited and narrow worldview made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, highly educated, successful people who happen to be black.”
In addition, in Michelle Obama‘s speech, she alluded to a much-criticized comment by Trump during the CNN presidential debate drew loud cheers from the thousands of delegates present at the convention.

Michelle Obama’s outspoken speech
Obama later accused Trump of using “the same old scam, doubling down on his ugly misogynistic and racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and real solutions that actually improve people’s lives.”
Trump’s continued attacks on Harris’ candidacy stoke fears that he will cast doubt on the election results if he loses in November
During Michelle Obama’s speech, she spoke of her mother, Marian Robinson, who died in June, and drew parallels between the lessons both she and Harris learned from their mother’s example.
Their mothers, Obama said, “shared the same belief in the promise of this country.”
“I wasn’t even sure if I would be strong enough to stand before you tonight. But my heart compelled me to be here because of the sense of duty I feel to honor their memory. And to remind us all that we must not squander the sacrifices our elders made to give us a better future,” he said.
And without directly mentioning Trump’s name, Obama drew sharp comparisons between Harris and the 45th president.
As reactions to Michelle Obama’s speech poured in on social media, many noted that the former first lady seemed to have moved away from the bombastic rhetoric she used when she coined the slogan “When they go low, we go high” during the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
