Mexican U-17 Football Team Drew Against Venezuela in the World Cup
The Mexican U-17 football team couldn’t go beyond a draw against Venezuela, who defended strongly despite being two men down.
The Mexican U-17 football team’s participation in the World Cup in Indonesia came close to securing a victory but failed to capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities.
It was a match where Mexico maintained ball possession for a significant part of the game, but that wasn’t enough.
Venezuela managed to take the lead, exploiting the height of their forward, who rose above the Mexican defenders and scored a goal six minutes into the match.
Meanwhile, the Mexican U-17 football team grew stronger and maintained control of the ball.
In fact, at the 40th minute, Venezuela’s key player in midfield, Geovanny Sequera, committed a strong foul against one of Mexico’s players.
However, in the second half, the Mexican U-17 football team came out with more dominance, as confirmed by the first goal.
The equalizing goal came in the 62nd minute, courtesy of Stephano Carrillo, after a run by Fidel Barajas, who crossed from the left flank for his teammate’s header.
Five minutes later, Luis Arturo Ortiz took a shot from distance to turn the score around. Just when it seemed like the result would favor Mexico, Paolo Bedolla conceded a penalty in the 81st minute, and shortly afterward, Nicolás Profeta converted to secure the draw for Venezuela.
With this result, the team led by Raúl Chabrand will aim for their first victory and qualification to the next round against New Zealand on Saturday, November 18, at the same Jalak Harupat Stadium.
The positive aspect is that Mexico has the opportunity to advance, as they need to win by more than three goals against New Zealand.
If successful, they would have a chance to advance to the Round of 16 as the group’s second-placed team or even a better third-placed team.
