Towards the end of last year, Epic Games, the company holding the rights to Fortnite, resolved allegations with the Federal Trade Commission, FTC, involving deceptive practices.
These Fortnite tactics allegedly led users to make unwanted in-game purchases, including children and teenagers among the players.
Additionally, the company had violated a historic federal children’s privacy law.
In an initial agreement, and then in a subsequent one, Epic agreed to pay $245 million as refunds to consumers who may have been harmed by the deceptive user interface.
The FTC is now notifying all potential beneficiaries of this multi-million-dollar reward fund.
Affected users may receive an email from the FTC in the coming month containing a claim number. Alternatively, they can go directly to the settlement website and file a claim using their Epic account ID.
