Alejandro Murat Hinojosa has departed from the PRI, a resignation that impacts the party’s stance in the 2024 elections.

Murat’s departure from the PRI comes with a group of leaders, signaling the formation of a new political movement.

The former governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, announced his “irrevocable” resignation from the party on the night of Friday, November 17.

Through X, formerly Twitter, the now ex-PRI member shared a video of just over four minutes, explaining the reasons behind his decision and expressing gratitude to those who supported him during his years with the PRI.

Alejandro Murat Hinojosa left the PRI, asserting that his involvement with the party was framed by a vision of defending the rights of the Mexican people, particularly in terms of access to public, free, and quality education.

Despite his commitment to the party, he clarified that he cannot continue to be a part of a party that no longer aligns with his personal and political identity, stating that the PRI no longer shares his vision for the country.

“I believe in dialogue as the primary tool of democracy. I believe in alliances, but alliances with the people. Luis Donaldo Colosio warned us: Mexico does not want political adventures; it does not want leaps into the void.”

However, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa left the PRI while announcing the creation of the Progressive Alliance for Mexico.

The lawyer and former governor emphasized that, during the 2024 elections, Mexicans will face the choice of participating in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope.

Hence, he revealed the establishment of the Progressive Alliance for Mexico.

“At this moment, what Mexico least needs is the politics of fear and hatred as an electoral strategy to win an election,” he added.

According to the politician, the alliance aims to create an open space for discussion, dialogue, and reflection for everyone, without any distinctions, allowing them to contribute to the creation of the model of the country they deserve.

It’s noteworthy that Murat’s resignation adds to a growing list of politicians who have decided to leave the PRI in 2023.

This includes former governor of the State of Mexico, Eruviel Ávila Villegas; former Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong; and former governor of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad Meneses.”
