The Durable Trophy of the Mexican Grand Prix
The durable trophy of the Mexican Grand Prix is made of silver, a material that makes it resistant to accidents.
That’s how they present the artwork that aims to withstand any incidents at the moment of being awarded, like the mishaps that the trophies in Hungary, Belgium, and Silverstone have suffered.
Now it comes to the Mexico City GP, where the creators of the trophy claim it is “resistant” and “anti” Red Bull, the team that has experienced three accidents with their trophies during the current Formula One season.
The durable trophy of the Mexican Grand Prix is presented as a silver-made relic that is practically unbreakable.
“Nothing is unbreakable; the one that broke was ceramic, which is a fragile material. It can be robust in a certain sense, but it was poorly positioned on a platform with a lot of movement. The one for the Mexican GP is not unbreakable, but close to it. The stone we use is sturdy, and the metal may get scratched or dented but won’t break,” says Martacarmela Sotelo, the creative director of TANE.
This jewelry house is responsible for crafting the trophy for the Mexico City GP.
During the current season, the Red Bull team has witnessed three of their trophies breaking just minutes after the celebration.
Eugenio Hernández is one of the three Mexican goldsmiths entrusted with creating the trophy that will be presented at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez during the Mexican Grand Prix in Formula One.

The Durable Trophy of the Mexican Grand Prix
The durability of the Mexican Grand Prix trophy lies in its materials. The design is inspired by the wings of an eagle, a national symbol, and is handcrafted using Mexican silver sourced from Peñoles mines and aventurine stone, which is highly resistant.
The figure awarded to the winners, both the driver and the team, is gold-plated.
In case of an accident, the trophy can be repaired from any damage or inconvenience by the same jewelry house that produces it.
A different trophy is presented in each edition of the Mexico City GP.
Thus, the race organizers assert that the durable trophy of the Formula One Mexican Grand Prix is nearly unbreakable and anti-Red Bull. We will have to wait and see if the team with Sergio “Checo” Pérez places first and puts it to the test.
