Checo Pérez’s Concerns: Marko Makes It Clear
Checo Pérez’s concerns are on the rise as he hits a rough patch in the 2023 season.
In his recent races, Checo Pérez has made numerous mistakes, and it has cost him dearly, causing significant worries.
The start of the 2023 season was a dream for him, and there was even speculation that he could compete with his teammate Max Verstappen.
However, Checo Pérez’s concerns began to mount unexpectedly.
Now, Checo Pérez’s worries have escalated as Red Bull’s advisor talked about the position the Mexican driver holds within the team and suggested that he should be concerned about the upcoming year.
Checo Pérez’s Concerns
Helmut Marko, the advisor for the Red Bull racing team, has once again stirred up controversy with his remarks about Sergio Pérez.
Marko pointed out that Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin is the only Formula 1 driver who could come close to Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, even with five races left in the season.
“For now, I only see one person who could get close to Max: Fernando Alonso,” Helmut Marko stated in an interview with SPORT1, without considering ‘Checo’ Pérez, who currently holds the second position in the drivers’ championship.
Moreover, Helmut Marko implied that ‘Checo’ Pérez’s place at Red Bull is secured for the next season due to his existing contract.
But Checo Pérez’s concerns grew when Marko elaborated that, otherwise, the Mexican should be worried about the upcoming year.
“But Pérez has a contract that we want to respect. We are doing everything we can to get back on track. We don’t have any alternatives. Otherwise, he could have a problem.”
When the German media questioned Helmut Marko if Max Verstappen would assist ‘Checo’ Pérez in securing the second place in the championship in the last five races of the season, the Red Bull advisor responded curtly, “No. Max won’t help.”
Currently, ‘Checo’ Pérez is in second place in the drivers’ championship with 224 points, with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in third place with 194 points. In the last race, Checo couldn’t amass enough points, despite Lewis Hamilton not finishing the race, leaving a gap of only 30 points between them.
‘Checo’ Pérez has reached the podium in eight out of the 17 races held in the current Formula 1 season, but his concerns grow as he has failed to score points on two occasions.
Perhaps his biggest challenge lies in his ability to qualify among the top drivers, as he hasn’t fared well in pole positions.
The Formula 1 action resumes with the United States Grand Prix, scheduled for Sunday, October 22.
