Mexican Cesar Montes stays in the first division of Spain
Mexican César Montes will stay in the Spanish league after the agreement between Espanyol and Almería.
In this way, Mexican César Montes will become a new player for Almería in the first division of Spain.
Montes left Espanyol for a fee of 14 million euros and 10% of the player’s contract in case of a new negotiation.
Just hours before the transfer market closed, the sale of the Mexican defender was finalized after his departure from Espanyol.
His new club made his signing official in a video posted on social media, welcoming him as the “Cachorro” (Puppy).
Mexican Cesar Montes will fight to maintain his category
The transfer of Mexican César Montes seemed to fall through on Thursday, August 31, after the Periquitos (Espanyol) changed the conditions to let Montes go to Almería.
There were even rumors of a possible lawsuit by the Mexican defender, who was reportedly upset about the last-minute change of plans.
It was also speculated that América was hoping to bring him back to the Liga MX, but the amount of money requested by the Periquitos turned out to be too high.
Mexican César Montes was signed by Espanyol in the last winter transfer window, leaving Monterrey.
The Mexican managed to play 20 matches in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey, scoring three times and accumulating over 1,500 minutes of play.
The Mexican defender arrived to support the Periquitos in their attempt to avoid relegation, something that did not happen as they finished in the 19th position in the overall standings.
In this deal, Espanyol came out on top, as they received 14 million euros, six million more than what they initially paid to Rayados.
Almería was promoted last season and secured their survival by just one point, so they will have a challenging year ahead to maintain their category.
At the moment, they are in 19th position after four matchdays, with only one point obtained from a draw against Cádiz in matchday 3, while the rest have been defeats.
Regarding Montes, Rayados plans to file a lawsuit since the transfer fee from January has not been paid, a fee that could be covered following Almería’s payment.
